The poor confused yuppy- spawn of Norwich seem to think this is a little bit of London Asian chic washed up in Norwich. But behind the funky sofas, neon lights and bigscreen Bollywood is heartily mediocre food. The waiters are dashing (literally), and while you\'ll never have an empty glass or plate for more than a nano-second, the downside is you can feel rushed. I had a disappointing monkfish dish, which had been frozen and was rubbery. The vegetable dhansak my partner had was pretty decent, if pricier than in the Spice Lounges\' counterparts. And whats with the crockery? Overdosing on its style over substance I didnt know whether to eat of the curious rectangular SP legend adorned plates or stub out my cigarette (thank God for the smoking ban, or that one could have been embarassing.)While ok as a stag or hen do venue, its roo noisy, impersonal and frankly full of early twentiers yapping to make it a pleasurable experience. An ambitious and admirable start, but lets hope they sort the food out before the hype wears off. |

I stumbled into SPice Lounge last Bank Holiday in a group of ten. The waiters were great - making room for us all and my chicken Balti was the best I've had in a long while. |

Swish lobby, good service but shame about the prices and food. The Spice Lounge makes a point that it cooks its spices whole (ie, not chopped up) quite why they advertise this fact is beyond me. It also means that most dishes are on the whole too mild, until you bite into a chilli. Strange. Also, to recoup the obvious large investment they've put into the place thier dishes are generaly about ?1.50 higher than anywhere else - while this is still very reasonable, I think there's better Indians for your money. |
